# Progress, Patience and the Next Steps for E23

For the past few months I've been focused on two parts of the E23 that probably aren't very exciting from the outside: the battery system and the power distribution unit (PDU).

The motor and inverter are already sitting in the workshop, which is a great feeling. Seeing major components arrive makes the project feel much more real. But before they can do anything useful, the systems around them need to be designed, tested and integrated.

One of the defining ideas behind E23 is a battery system built from interchangeable 5 kWh modules. Run two packs for a lighter, more agile buggy, or four packs for endurance, all while maintaining the same vehicle performance.

It sounds simple enough, but every decision has consequences. Packaging, cooling, safety, sealing, charging, serviceability and cost are all closely linked. The same applies to the PDU, which sits at the heart of the vehicle's electrical system.

Progress is steady, and with each iteration the architecture becomes a little clearer.

Most of my development time at the moment is focused on refining these systems and turning concepts into designs that can be built, tested and validated. While much of the design work is happening in-house, I'm fortunate to have support from specialist partners. Electric Drive Engineering will be assisting with testing, controls and software integration as the project moves into the next phase.

The immediate goal is straightforward: complete the battery and PDU designs and begin bench testing.

Bench testing is an important milestone because it allows the major electrical systems to be validated together before they find their way into a vehicle. It's also where a lot of assumptions are replaced by real-world data.

The encouraging thing is that each month feels like another step in the right direction. The architecture is taking shape, key components are arriving, and the list of unknowns is steadily getting shorter.

For now, it's back to CAD models, spreadsheets and design reviews.

In the next update I'll share some of the hardware that has started arriving in the workshop, including the EVR motor and NX-Technologies inverter.
